The Lowdown Season 2: A Tulsa Actress Gets to Be Part of Something Bigger

There’s something incredibly rewarding about being an actress in your hometown, especially when that hometown is Tulsa, Oklahoma, and the project is something as exciting as FX’s The Lowdown, Season 2.

I’m thrilled to share that I have a role in the second season of The Lowdown, created by the incredibly talented Sterlin Harjo and starring Ethan Hawke.

But for me, this experience is about so much more than getting to appear in a television series. It's about watching Tulsa become a place where stories are being told, careers are being built, and Oklahoma actors and filmmakers are getting opportunities that once seemed possible only in Hollywood.

The Lowdown and and the Rise of Tulsa's Film Industry

For years, actors from Oklahoma often felt they had to leave home to pursue meaningful careers in television and film. I know that journey firsthand.

My own acting career has taken me from Tulsa to Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York City. I trained at The Theatre School at DePaul University, pursued opportunities in major entertainment markets, and eventually found my way back home.

And now, here I am, working as a professional actress in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on a major television production.

Talk about a full-circle moment.

Productions like The Lowdown are helping change the narrative about what's possible for actors and filmmakers in Oklahoma.

From local casting opportunities and production crews to filming locations, hotels, restaurants, and small businesses, the growing Oklahoma film industry has an impact that extends far beyond what audiences see on screen.

And perhaps most importantly, these productions are giving talented people a reason to stay, return, and create right here at home.

Sterlin Harjo Is Putting Tulsa in the Spotlight

One of the things I admire most about Sterlin Harjo is his commitment to telling stories that feel authentic to the people and places he knows.

Rather than making Tulsa look like somewhere else, The Lowdown allows Tulsa to be Tulsa.

Its personality, neighborhoods, characters, humor, and unmistakable sense of place are part of what makes the series compelling.

At a recent Season 2 premiere gathering at the legendary Cain's Ballroom, I found myself watching Sterlin stand onstage in front of a room filled with hundreds of people who came to celebrate and support what he's created.

I wondered what that must feel like.

To create something from your own imagination, bring it to life in your hometown, and look out at a room full of people who believe in it.

What a moment.

And what a gift to Tulsa.

Why Being an Oklahoma Actress Matters to Me

I've spent more than 20 years working in television, entertainment, hosting, voice-over, and acting. But acting has always been one of my first loves.

There's something magical about stepping into someone else's story, even for a brief moment.

Being cast in The Lowdown Season 2 reminded me why I fell in love with acting in the first place.

It also reminded me that success doesn't always require leaving home.

Sometimes the most meaningful opportunities happen right where you started.

As a Tulsa-based actress, I'm proud to be part of a growing community of Oklahoma actors, casting directors, filmmakers, producers, and creative professionals who are helping build something lasting.

And through my work co-hosting Behind the Scenes Oklahoma, I get to celebrate many of those same people and productions from another perspective.

I love being both a storyteller and someone who helps shine a light on the people telling the stories.

The Future of Film and Television in Oklahoma

Tulsa has always had a creative spirit. Now, more of the world is getting to see it.

The growth of film and television production in Oklahoma means more opportunities for local actors, more work for production professionals, and more visibility for our city.

It means young performers growing up in Tulsa can begin imagining a future in entertainment without automatically assuming they have to move away.

And for those of us who left and eventually came home, it's a reminder that sometimes life brings you right back to where you're supposed to be.

I'm grateful to have a small part in The Lowdown Season 2 and to witness this exciting chapter in Tulsa's creative history.

So keep watching. You just might spot me!

And here's to more Oklahoma stories, more opportunities for Tulsa actors, and more reasons to celebrate the incredible creative talent right here in our own backyard.
